En France, une autre tendance des libres figurations regroupe Speedy Graphito, Kriki et le groupe Nuklé-art, les Musulmans fumants (Francky Boy, Dominique Gangloff, Fabrice Langlade, César Maurel, Tristam, Philippe Waty), les Frères Ripoulin (Bla+Bla+Bla, Nina Childress, Closky, Manhu, Ox, Piro Kao, Trois Carrés) ou VLP (Michel Espagnon, Jean Gabaret, Martial Jalabert). Travaillant seuls ou en collectif, ils pratiquent la performance, interviennent dans la rue, font de l’affichage sauvage ou du graff, tout autant qu’ils peignent en atelier. Liés à l’univers des médias, ils sont parfois désignés sous le terme de « médias peintres ». Marie-Odile Camdessus use des mêmes sources en sculpture.

Working alone or as a collective, they would spend just as much time on painting graffiti and guerrilla street performances, street art and postering as they did on studio painting. Linked to the media world, they are sometimes referred to as “media painters”.
